Re: Caitlin Clark, we've had a front row view of her for four, now five years and are not surprised at all that she is blowing up. We knew there was going to be a steep ramp up getting into the W. We knew she was going to face new challenges, increased physicality, skills, and cunning. We knew there was going to be a target on her back for all the variety of reasons, real and imagined. We knew she could score and dominate games, but maintained her passing was exponentially better than most casual observers gave credit for.
And through all that, here she is, rolling. I haven't heard he complain (off the court, at least) about any of it. She's going to be fine, to understate the obvious.
I love Coach Stayley. She's an all-timer, and she's a straight shooter. She admitted what we all knew, without delving into the intangibles of respect, the media circus, etc etc. It's all true. Of course, on the other hand, the Dream Team included Christian Laettner, who... yeah, OK, may have made sense at the time, somewhat, but at least they PLANNED to include a college player du jour.
To be clear, I'm not a Caitlin Clark honk. There are a ton of REALLY good female hoopsters who have worked hard to be where they are, and I have no real qualm with whatever mechanics went into selecting the team. I sure hope their margin of victory is twenty points.
Another great pod, KJ. Short and sweet is just as fun as the more extensive episodes.
I'm a CC honk and proud of it. I will never take away from the accomplishments of any basketball player, and the ladies that were selected to the USWNT earned it. I will forever hold the opinion that CC and possibly Angel Reese should've been named to the squad.
