I am excited for FB season but really couldn't care less about the media daze or press conferences. Let's see how they look on the field. I'm all for turning it up, as you suggest, but I want to see something exciting and memorable on the gridiron. Walk the Bruin walk, then talk the Bruin talk. I would be thrilled to watch the Bruins get a couple good early wins. I think patience is going to be important in Year 1 and will keep an even keel. Here in Hawkeye land, I'll be going against the grain and hope to upset a vast horde of bumblebee-looking friends.
Can't wait for basketball seasons. Great to hear about Bilo - no surprise - and Skyy. I love your updates and understand that a lot of the summer stuff is anecdotal. That's just fine. I'm cautiously optimistic about this season and think Chef Cronin will have them cooking by January. Would I love to see a ten or eleven man rotation, playing stifling, pressing D and high octane, blitzing O? You bet! But I'm not holding my breath. Winning will cure all that ails us.
The women's team should be a lot of fun. I went to UCSB with Coach Close - my roommate was the manager of the Lady Gauchos (!) for a couple years and I am a fan of hers and of the team spirit that she's putting together.
I think Bruin fans are going to be delighted with the Big Ten Network - it is so easy to catch so many good games in so many sports, beyond all the premium national TV and streaming. No more jumping through hoops to catch me some hoops... rimshot...
On the Olympics, I used to be a huge fan. Summer of 84 was like a dream come true with all the events I attended and athletes I met, gold medals and world records earned before my eyes. These days it takes me a minute to find a rhythm with all the media coverage which can, at times, overwhelm the actual competitions. I love the Olympic spirit, and the oath that the athletes take ahead of the competition. I love the contrasts of elite professionals standing side by side with actual amateurs who may be science teachers by day. And the party scene in Paris after their events are done? Oh, my! City of light; city at night!
This is awesome stuff. I remember going to the Olympic Village in 84' with my dad and befriending a boxer named Henry Tillman. I love the Olympic spirit as well, and what the games represent. Paris is also an all-time spot for the games, city of light city at night. Spent some time over there in early 2000's and let's just say it was a good time. Appreciate you as always my man
That's wonderful. My pop and I had so much fun that summer, in the midst of a brutal divorce... lifetime memories. I loved how the whole city seemed to come together for that brief moment.
My favorite experience was sitting right next to Roger Kingdom's parents when he won the gold medal in the 110 high hurdles. The big favorite was Renaldo Nehemiah, so when Roger won, the surprise and ecstasy overwhelmed his mother in a way that will always give me goosebumps.
Good stuff, KJ
Appreciate the listen Brian .. any takeaways
Thx! I have thoughts:
