Same thing -remember like it was yesterday! Was driving home - didn't think we were going to get the broadcast in Honolulu. No chance for TV as well. Pulled in the driveway and turned on the radio. Suddenly I realized I was hearing the broadcast after all! I heard : "time out Bruins ball and down by one with a little over four seconds left.!." My Bruin heart sank and I held my breath. Edney goes coast to coast for the Win!!! I jumped out of the car and started celebrating listening carefully to make sure it really happened! !

Like it was yesterday. My then father in law was in the hospital - had an aneurism on his aorta. Had to undergo surgery. We're waiting it out - life threatening surgery going on, we're out In a waiting area, got the game on. My brother in law and I are riveted on the screen. I'm in a really lousy mood. This was the team I thought had by far the best chance to win it all since JRW retired - so many options, could play so many ways. And we'd played awful that game, were getting beaten the whole game long. Finally we'd climbed back into it, gotten a one point lead, now had to play defense. But Missouri playing the game of their lives had scored anyway with those 4.8 seconds left on the clock. The wait took about forever but finally Cam Dollar tossed the ball in and Tyus took off. But he didn't take it at the rim, but rather a bit off to the side. And without ever slowing his pace one iota he tossed it up into the air - and the ball came down through the hoop. And we jumped about as high into the air as we were capable of jumping and we were just able to remember we were in a dang hospital so we swallowed the shouts that about HAD to erupt from our chests and somewhere the sun had come back out and the world was back on track again.

Thank you for this. One of the great memories of Bruin fandom

Thank you for sharing that personal story Barry. It’s amazing how UCLA Basketball brings folks together. To this day, a top 2-3 memory of my life outside the birth of my kids.
