Michigan State transfer Xavier Booker presents an intriguing two-way skillset that could address several needs for UCLA. The 6'11" big man combines rare physical tools with developing offensive skills that make him worthy of serious consideration.
Defensively, Booker's 7'4" wingspan and fluid mobility stand out. He's shown the ability to:
Protect the rim (1.5 blocks per 40 minutes)
Switch comfortably onto perimeter players
Cover ground in help situations
Offensively, while inconsistent this season, Booker has demonstrated valuable traits:
Solid finishing at the rim (46.7% FG in transition)
Pick-and-roll potential as a lob target for Donovan Dent
Floor-spacing capability (38% 3PT as a freshman)
His transition game has a major upside. Though his current numbers appear average (0.972 PPP), this reflects sporadic opportunities more than ability. When engaged, Booker's explosive athleticism makes him a devastating rim runner - he just needs the right system and playmaker to maximize this strength.
While still developing consistency, Booker's combination of defensive versatility and offensive tools would give UCLA a different dimension. He wouldn't need to be a primary option but could thrive as a complementary piece alongside established scorers. The foundation is there for him to grow into an impactful two-way contributor.

triffical!! Very intriguing. Very high rating out of HS, one year's experience training under Izzo. Familiar with the B!G, and still young with room to grow. I like it.
Honestly you had me at 7’4 wingspan. To me, it feels like our returning core gives us a very solid floor. If a couple of those guys, like Dailey or Perry have a breakout season, we could be special. But I love the idea of a swing for the fence big like Booker. What if he has a Kel’el Ware-like breakout with a change of scenery? If he struggles, I think we’re still a good team, but if he’s hits his potential, I think that makes us a title contender. I would go for broke with this spot in our roster…
